Learning Spaces

This week I have been contemplating my classroom layout and thinking about spaces for optimum learning.  Last week I found another kneeling table so I could take away chairs and uncramp the two desktop computers that I had.
In previous rooms I have had one desktop with three chairs around allowing for collaboration with the more able supporting the less able.

I like the new layout with the two kneelers but it was interesting to see yesterday and today children took chairs from other tables to sit at the kneelers.  So we then started a discussion about cushions, tested some from Room 23, and took a vote.

So now it looks like we will design / make cushions.  It's all about creating an environment that the children own and take responsibility for.

I was then reminded about a workshop I added last year at an Interface day in Taupo and Ewen McIntosh's eight learning spaces.  Time for a re-read...
